RAMBLIN’ with Helen... |
SUMMER has arrived, and appears our weather is going to be as mixed-up as it has been for the winter and spring! Oh well, that is something none of us can control, so enjoy each day, whatever it brings.
I had emails from Joy Crouch and Sharon Foultz saying that our Annual Picnic found about 36 in attendance, enjoying a beautiful day, good food, music and fellowship. I want to thank Joy and Ray Crouch for offering to come around this way for me, but I know it is way out of their way, and just couldn't make myself accept their offer. THANKS FOLKS, you are indeed true friends.
Had an email from the Ted, the son of our dear Fiddlin'-Doodle-De-Doo, Peter Hoysic, saying that his dad had been having a problem with a bad infection, but was doing better. I sent him a card from the CNYBA Members.
When Jude & Sunny Palczynski sent in their application for membership, she included a note saying how happy she was to have come across our CNYBA Website, that lists so much great music to enjoy! WELCOME FOLKS. Also WELCOME to Matthew Zabinski, Vernon Schmitz and Mary Yates who joined as new members, and to Christopher and Patricia Pepe who rejoined.
Speaking of membership, folks there are 22 of you whose newsletters will be highlighted and dates circled this month. PLEASE CHECK YOUR NEWSLETTER AND RENEW NOW.
I had an email from Perry Cleaveland, telling me that his mother, Maxine had a knee replacement on June 14 th and is now at a place for therapy. She has to have her other knee done, and possible a hip, after which Perry says she'll have a body of a 20 year old! I talked to Maxine on Sun., 6.24 and she is in a lot of pain. Please take a moment and send her a card – Deloris (Maxine) Cleaveland, Loretto: Fahey Rehab, Room 358, 700 E. Brighton Ave., Syracuse, NY. 13205. Her phone # is 315-671-1733. Maxine is the widow of our long-time member and supporter, the late Dave Cleaveland , and of course Mom to Perry, whom needs no introduction. Maxine also told me that Perry is now a licensed undertaker, and works with his brother-in-law. With his caring personality, there could be no one more suited for that job – CONGRATULATIONS PERRY.
A BIG THANK YOU to LOIS ARTLIP who once again sent me a check to cover the mailing of this newsletter. I sent Lois a note of thanks, and this most certainly is a tremendous savings once a year for our association. THANKS also to the following for their monetary donations – Nancy Powderly, Stuard and Jean McWhorter, Mark Sostrin, and to David and Winnie Jones for 10 stamps when they all sent their renewals.
RAY CROUCH has been having problems with a “nagging” cough the past two months, and it isn't responding to treatment. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he is such a avid supporter of our association.
One night during the week of June 17-23, while watching the 5 to 6:30 local news, I was sure I saw Jackie and Roscoe Kelley at one of the sites they were reporting on. After calling Jackie, I found out indeed it was them. The news item was regarding that once again, the bronze plaque in Comfort Tyler Park had been ripped off . Jacquline Kelley, is the Regent (President) of the Comfort Tyler Chapter, NSDAR, and of course is very concerned about this. The park was opened in 1941, and sometime between then and 2005 the plaque disappeared; so a new one was gotten and bolted to a rock which is dedicated to one of the founding fathers in 2005. The 3.2 acre park is at Comstock Ave. and East Colvin St., and all are hoping someone will bring it back and just lean it up against the stone – no questions asked.
SHARON VOLLES, and I keep in touch thru letters, and her last one related the narrow escape she had with the tractor she mows their lawn with – a 2 ton farm one! She had gotten off to pick up something, shut off the mower, but forgot to set the brake and it started rolling backwards down the hill. She tried to get on and the front ran up her left arm and she blacked out. When she came to, she was in the road, left shoe off, pants tore and glasses in road. Somehow, the tractor went back into the lot and she was able to get back on and go to the house. Norm helped her off and into the house, and since everything moved, figured nothing was broken. However, after much “talking, pleading, etc.”, she consented to go for a cat-scan, which revealed no broken bones, but badly bruised; and most of her complete body was BLACK and BLUE and so sore. When she wrote (6/4) she still had to sleep in a recliner, BUT was writing while setting in a truck, recording the scales as Norm and Mike were scaling logs. (Just goes to prove you can't keep a good person down..)! A couple of months ago, I wrote regarding Sharon's Dad, (sho is 90) having broken his leg, and her Mom is progressively losing her life to Alzehimers. . Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers, and I know a note now and then would brighten Sharon's day – 3781 Otisco Rd., Marietta, NY. 13110-9745. THANK YOU.
Speaking of mail, thanks to Ellis Bradford and Socretes Nellis for their nice cards and words of encouragement after reading about my “virus bug” last month. I am really feeling better each day. This takes care of the emails and letters to date, and hopefully next months will not include any accidents or illnesses.
Remember our festival on Aug. 2 nd to 5 th , and folks, I plan to be there all day, Sat., Aug. 5 th , so be sure and stop by the table, (I've instructed Ed to have one for me), to say hi, and will be glad to take the renewals from so many that do that each year, along with hopefully lots of new members. REMEMBER – the dues increase takes effect Sept. 1 st , and you can avoid that for another year by renewing EARLY!
No newsletter in Aug., but hope to have the Sept. issue to you by the 1 st , as our September meeting finds our new slate of officers taking over, and a decision on moving our meeting place to Baldwinsville will be made . If the move is approved (and I am sure it will be), then plans will have to be made to move our records from the Cato Masonic Temple, along with other decitions I am sure will be made at that meeting. PLAN NOW TO ATTEND.
Also, if anyone knows Jim Yager, 112 W. State St., Oswego, NY 13126, and has a phone no. for him, please let me know. His June newsletter was returned undeliverable, but I sent it to the above address, which is where I sent his dues card and receipt when he joined earlier in June, and it wasn't returned to me. He paid for a years membership, so want to get his newsletters to him.
I am typing this on 6/26. and in today's mail, received an application for membership and want to welcome Vincent Merriman to our CNYBA. Folks, this really is the end of this visit, so until the next one – stay cool, healthy, enjoy every day of a wonderful summer, and looking forward to seeing you at our festival on Sat., Aug. 5 th . DO STOP BY AND SAY HELLO….I'd love to see you.
Helen
