CORRECTION: It was brought to my attention that the three-generation band who consisted of grandfather, father and 11 year old twins who played some fantastic fiddle tunes at our festival were the Northern Sons band. We had it listed as an entirely different group. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

THANK YOU to Lois Artlip for furnishing the postage for the mailing of the October newsletter. Your generosity is deeply appreciated by me and the Officers and Board members of CNYBA.

DEAR CENTRAL NY BLUEGRASS ASSOCIATION, Thank you so much for your cards and good wishes you sent to me during my recent mishap. I am stronger and better day by day and I hope to see you all real soon. Best Wishes, Jackie Kelley

PHOTOGRAPHER NEEDED------CNYBA needs someone who will attend our functions and take pictures for our photo album/scrap book. It is a real fun thing to do and our members really like having their pictures taken and being remembered. You will be reimbursed for film and photo album's purchased. Whoever wants to mingle, visit and take pictures, please contact Bob Hayden at 315-673-1313.

The Apple Festival will be held October 11th and 12th (this weekend) and if you haven't volunteered to help out for a few hours, please contact Bob Hayden at 315-673-1313 and let him know what you would like to help do. You can help sell tickets at one of their many booths or you can play music in one of the shelters and entertain the crowds (by doing this we can introduce bluegrass and old tyme country music to the public who are unaware of us). By helping out at the Apple Festival, we will be able to keep the rent money owed them from us for rental of the grounds for our festival. Thank you in advance for helping.

MANY THANKS to Jacqui McCarthy for all her time and effort that went into the preparation and execution of our September 28th Jamboree. All your efforts were deeply appreciated. Bob Hayden

Ramblin' with Helen By Helen Weldon
As I sit here in my kitchen table writing our "monthly visit", a cool breeze from an open window reminds me that fall arrived at 6:47 this am, one of the most beautiful seasons, BUT also a reminder of the one that follows all too soon - at least for me. I hope each of you have a chance to get our and enjoy the beautiful foliage as it changes in your area, or travel to other areas. I'm looking forward to Lake Placid in mid-October and hope some of the color will still be there.
Since our last visit, two of our members have lost loved ones, and expressions of sympathy were sent to each. Carol Grant lost her brother, Jim Blanchard on Aug. 6th and services were held on Mon., Aug. 10th at the Foster Funeral Home in Hannibal. I'm sure a note to her at 14840 Lake St. Ext., Sterling, NY 13156 would be appreciated. John Wilmot, board member and present band co-ordinator lost his father on Sept. 10th. A memorial service was held at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, 90 Franklin St., Auburn, NY on Fri., Sept 12th. Expressions of sympathy will reach John at: RD#1, Henvy Road, Port Byron, NY 13140. It was mentioned briefly in my Sept. Ramblin' about the passing of Norm Volles father on Aug. 15th. I hope many of you took time to send Norm and Sharon a note, as they are long-time members, supporters of our association, honorary members and Sharon served as secretary for many years.
Jackie Kelley, a long-time member had the misfortune of falling and breaking her hip. After spending a couple of weeks in the hospital, she is now home. I talked to her last evening (Sept. 22nd) and she said she is coming along but getting very bored! A therapist comes twice a week and she is now using a cane. Here is the contents of a "Thank You" note I received from her dated Sept 12 - "Dear Central NY Bluegrass Association: Thank you so much for your cards and good wishes you sent during my recent mishap. I am stronger and better day by day, and I hope to see you all real soon. Best Wishes, Jackie Kelley". She told me that her husband is the best cook, housekeeper, most patient husband and is so fortunate to have him. We are glad for you Jackie, but remember all that attention isn't going to last forever!!! Perhaps a card, call or note to Jackie at 41544 Oran Gulf Road, Manlius, NY 13104 (ph. 315-682-6305) will help relieve her being so bored.
At our September 14th meeting Dick DeNeve asked that Bob Klaben, a charter and honorary member be remembered in our prayers.
Folks, I've been telling you about all the generous donations of stamps received when members make their renewals, resulting in not having to take money from our treasury -well, I finally had to ask for a check, the first since May 2002, BUT am so happy to report that thru the generous donations received from Gen. & Mrs Bob Purple and Norman Hasman when these folks sent their renewals, our treasury has been more than reimbursed for that check! THANK YOU FOLKS. Like I've always said - our bluegrass family is the greatest. I also know that our editor, Thayle Phair has a thank-you elsewhere in this newsletter to another special person for postage. My thanks to you too. I received Soc Nellis's renewal, along with a SASE, book of stamps, and an answer to what I wanted to do as a prize for his participation in Loren Teachout's quiz. Soc told me they had purchased a CD player and wanted to know if we had any of our 25th Anniversary CD's left. He hadn't ordered one when they came out as they never thought they would have a player, but do and already have 33 CD's. I had already asked our president, Bob Hayden, if the association would donate one, if in a round-about-way I was able to find out if they had a CD player. I sent the CD along with a letter thanking Soc for making my idea work so out so easily and hope he and Jan are enjoying it..
It was good to see Peter Hoysic, Bert and Alice Mehlenbacher and Bob and Donna Walter at our Sept. meeting. Bert said his inner ear problem is a bit better and hopes to get a scheduled MRI date moved up so they can head south soon. George Hall and Bibianne are flying south the middle of October and the Walters are leaving for the IBMA Convention in Kentucky and will end up back in AL for the winter. At the meeting it was voted to have Bob and Donna represent us at the IBMA as we pay yearly dues to belong to it. Peter Hoysic brought some fresh vegetables and homemade pickles, which I know were much appreciated, and Peter the loaf of zucchini bread you brought especially for me was delicious. Tell Mary she can make more anytime she wants to. Thanks to Joy Crouch, she and I visited Thayle on Wed., Sept 10th and what a wonderful visit we had - and I'm sure many of you can visualize us three together!!!! Only wish the outlook for relief to Thayle for her pain and other health problems was a brighter one, but folks I assure you she hasn't lost any of her spark or enthusiasm for life. Please keep her in your prayers. I understand that Maryan and John VanDusen are on a cross-country trip and won't be back for a few weeks. With the uncertainty of life, am so glad they are doing this as they owed it to themselves, but somehow feel both will experience "baby withdrawls" as can't remember when they didn't have at least one "little one" in their care. How fortunate those little ones were to have the care that both Maryan and John gave them - may God watch over them for a safe and wonderful trip.
A couple of things I neglected to mention regarding my stay at our festival will finish this monthís visit - to that "special someone" and you know who you are, thanks for my supper on Fri. night and to Bob and Donna Walter for their hospitality and delicious supper Sat. night.
Hope to see you all on October 12th. Until our next visit, remember - "If you were to spell our numbers, you'd have to go until one thousand before you find the letter "A"!
Helen
