HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
Our January 9th meetings were well attended and discussions concerning our Festival were shared with the membership for their approval--such as hours for each day (4 of them), prices for vendors and fleamarketers, band contracts, sound, port-a-potties and tent. We are real anxious about this year's festival (please see ourfestival page), so please pass on the good word. Thayle completed the flyer so many copies could be taken south by John and Maryan Van Dusen (chairpeople for our festival). Also many copies have been sent out to various locations to get the word out. If anyone wants flyers, please let Thayle know.
We were all saddened by the news of the death of Lillian Moss. Lillian was a devoted music lover, as well as a selfless volunteer in her community. Even though the loss of losing a friend hurts, Ed Campbell and Ron & Nancy of OneSong should feel proud that they took the time to entertain Lillian and make her last "days" enjoyable. Lillian's smile and positive attitude will truly be be missed by all who knew her... may she rest in peace.
We were delighted to find out that the Cultural Resources Council, again this year, will extend to us a mini-grant toward the promotion of an out-of-state band for our festival. Warren Cooke, a member of CNYBA, mentioned to us that "Farmer Browns Barn" was having a little financial problem and due to the fact that he advertises our meetings & events many times throughout his program each week, has members of our association entertain on his show, attends our events and volunteers as MC for our Festival,, and keeps oldtime and bluegrass music alive for our listening pleasure, the CNYBA adamently approved the motion to donate $25 monthly to his program for now.
Bob Klaben, band chairman for many years, has resigned his position because of too many "irons in the fire". He has made all the arrangements up until September and we appreciate all his hard work and generous time and money spent to accomplish this.
Thanks to Homer Reynolds and Marianne Hauer for the generous donation of cards donated to Helen Weldon, sunshine lady, which helps make her job easier. Helen is very thoughtful and remembers everyone on special occasions and times of distress. Cards and prayers are needed for; Dave and Maxine Cleaveland, 214 E. Oakley Drive, Syracuse, NY 13205; Lois and Bud Artlip, 536 W Swamp Road, Middlesex, NY 14507; Mary Carr, 2177 W Genesee Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027; Charlie Hauer, 168 County Rte 2A, Pulaski, NY 13142-9804 and Bob Hayden, 4601 Limeledge Road, Marcellus, NY 13108.
Our January Jamboree at Raphael's Restaurant featured the DELANEY BROTHERS BLUEGRASS which was well attended and extremely enjoyed by all who attended. Ray and John Delaney, Scott Corbett, "Diamond" Joe Davoli Jr, and Frand Dauenhauer did their usual professional presentation of the many songs they sang and played.
There is still jamming in Marcellus and Rochester (see local jams). If anyone is interested in becoming our festival chairperson for 2001, please let John VanDusen know. He will gladly let you assist him this year, so you can receive first-hand instruction. Our membership is enjoyable to work with and much satisfaction isaccomplished while doing this.
