NEWS and TIDBITS for March, 2000

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Our 2nd Annual CNYBA Festival plans are progressing nicely with many new suggestions being applied to make it more
enjoyable for all of us. Marion LaMont will be in charge of a fleamarket table for CNYBA. Anyone wishing to donate "goods" to be sold (with the proceeds to be given to CNYBA), please contact Marion LaMont, 13 1/2 E Main St., Marcellus, NY 13108 or 315-673-2329.

President Ed Campbell appointed a nominating committee consisting of Thomas Russell (chairperson), Ray Crouch and
Roscoe Kelley to nominate a slate of officers for our April 9, 2000 meeting. If you have any nominations (with their
permission), to send through the mail, please get their names to Thayle Phair no later than 1 week prior to the April 9 annual meeting. So far the following slate has been offered: President: Ed Campbell, Vice-President: Helen Weldon, Treasurer: Peter Carr, Secretary: Thayle Phair. Board members for a three year term: Jerry Miller and Tom Russell.

We were saddened to learn of the death of Mavor "Bud" Artlip. Bud was a charter member of Central New York Bluegrass Association and attended as many festivals and concerts and jamborees as he possibly could. He truly loved oldtime bluegrass and his favorite song was "Things in Life" by Don Stover. Bud had been ill for many years, but it never dampened his bluegrass spirit--always had something witty to say or a poem to write. Bud received the Frank Saplin award for his love of bluegrass and support of his organization and its functions. Bud will be sadly missed by all.

Homer Reynolds, a member from North Carolina announced the birth of a new Grandson, Daniel Wade, who weighed 8 lbs 2 ozs and 22 inches long.

Bruce Cutler, MC of Gospel Doings recorded a 30 second spot with Helen Weldon, Vice-Pres. advertising our organization and functions. With background music of local bands, Bruce made tapes and mailed them to various locations with hope of promoting CNYBA bluegrass.

Welcome new members, Roger Edwards from Rome and Robert North, Penn Yan.

Congratulations and Good Luck to Bill Anderson, new Editor of Southern Tier Bluegrass Association, Inc, 10395 Spencer Hill Road, Corning, NY 14830. 607-936-3248. STBA hold monthly meetings every third Sunday at the Tuscarora Elementary School, Addison, NY. Bring a dish to pass, table setting, a friend, your musical instrument and your listening ear. Picking starts at noon and the meeting starts at 1:00pm.

The Post Standard recently published a picture of Vicky Delaney (Ray Delaney's wife) as co-chairman of the Cortland
Centennial Committee who is preparing for a 100 year celebration as a chartered city. Vicky and Ray own and run Cortland Picture Frames.

Our February All-Star was a huge success with Rivergrass starting us off with their traditional bluegrass music, followed by Homestead Bluegrass and their unique delightful presentations. Andy Pawlenko and the Smokey Hollow Boys (assisted by long-time friend Mac Claflin on fiddle, formerly of the Country Rhythm Boys, and Buddy Clark (of Grass Creek band, Can) playing fiddle, stimulated us with their customary enjoyable music and wit. The Salmon River Boys, including long-time missed Hugh Hilton (who received a standing ovation) ended out the evening with their traditional, bluegrass music and a square dance. Thanks you to all who made this day special.
