Membership Notes

We are saddened to tell you that our dear Bluegrass friend, Art Benning, passed away on September 24, 2014 at 11 am. He died peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Lois, at his side. Our hearts and prayers go out to Lois and their family Following is the obituary.

J. Arthur (Art) Benning, age 77 of Watson Rd. died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014.

Visitation with the family at 9:30am and a memorial service at 11:00am will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at the Clyde Grange, 16 E. Genesee St.

Memorials made be made to the Finger Lakes Antique Power Tractor Club, c/o Betty Smith, 874 State Route 414, Waterloo, NY. 13165, or to Lifetime Hospice, 3111 South Winton Rd., Rochester, NY 14623.

Art was born in Newark, Oct. 17, 1936, son of Walter & Olive Walden Benning. After graduating from Cornell University, he farmed his father’s farm.  He then worked at local Ford tractor dealers as a mechanic and then as a parts manager for over 30 years.  After retiring, he worked for DiSanto Jet Gas Co. in Clyde.  He continued to have a hobby farm throughout his working years.  He was a member of the Finger Lakes Antique Power Club, a life member of Galen Historical Society and the Wayne Co. Historical Society.  He participated with the Finger Lakes Steamers Scale Model Train Club and the Finger Lakes Blue Grass Assoc.  Art enjoyed collecting farm model tractors, listening to bluegrass music, and creating woodcrafts that he sold at various events.

Art is survived by his wife of 54 yrs. Lois Tyler, 3 sons; Dan (Lynn) of Port Washington, WI, Bill (Debbie) of Clyde, John (Charlene) of Wolcott, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters; Alice Sherman of Elbridge and Marjorie Benning-Trent ( Angus) of Sequim, WA. Brother-in-law Robert Cockram, Lansing and many nieces & nephews.
